CZP at WorldCon!

Check out the photo gallery

There's no other way to put it: CZP made a huge impact at WorldCon!

Book Sales

Between our dealer's table and the launch party, we sold over 150 books, including selling out of Claude Lalumière's Objects of Worship, Robert Boyczuk's Horror Story and Other Horror Stories, and Brent Hayward's Filaria, plus earning kudos for our gorgeous cover art and the quality of our books.

But enough about that, you want to hear about . . .

Kicking off a little after 8 (instead of the original 7:30 due to an error in the Anticipation programming guide—sound familiar?) and MCed by Sandra who introduced everyone with spurious biographies, we had brief synopses and humourous anecdotes by Daniel A. Rabuzzi and his wife, The Choir Boats artist Deborah Mills, followed by Robert J. Wiersema regaling us with his writing adventures.

David Nickle read his short but super-creepy "The Mayor Will Make a Brief Statement and then Take Questions" (from Monstrous Affections) to ooohs and aaahs from the crowd.

Nir Yaniv talked about the process of writing with his co-author Lavie Tidhar (who apparently doesn't like to be edited!), and the perils of Skype and instant messaging when living thousands of miles from each other in wildly different time zones.

Robert Boyczuk read the last line of every story from Horror Story and Other Horror Stories, and Claude Lalumière countered by reading the first line of every story from Objects of Worship—a battle to the death (or the paper cut...), while Objects artist Rupert Bottenberg toasted in a debonair fashion.

Then the party really got going.

Thanks to Twitter, Facebook, invitations by the authors, and general word of mouth, it became the party to be at Saturday night. We had a huge turnout—the two-story room was packed to the gills with fans, writers, editors, artists, journalists, friends and parents (thanks for driving up, Mr. and Mrs. Rabuzzi)!

Spotted at the launch: Cory Doctorow, Robert Silverberg, James Morrow, Ellen Kushner (our raffle winner!), Karl Schroeder, Michael Skeet, Allan Weiss (and Pepe), Madeline Ashby, and many others, who came by to chat, have a beer, buy some books and be part of the CZP experience.

Everyone had a fantastic time and remarked on how beautiful our books looked.
