Contest is now closed to submissions.

Flash fiction: it's longer than a knock-knock joke, shorter than a short story, and for a short, sharp shock of narrative juice, there's nothing like it.

That's why ChiZine Publications has sent three of its finest short-fiction authors out on a hunt for the best little stories they can find, in ChiZine Publications' Flash Flash-fiction Contest.

CZP authors Robert Boyczuk (Horror Stories and Other Horror Stories), Claude Lalumière (Objects of Worship), and David Nickle (Monstrous Affections) will be poring over stacks of 300-word stories in search of the perfect flash.

The author of the best story will win copies of all three of the judges' story collections, and publication on ChiZine Publications' website. Second- and third-prize winners will be published on the site, too, and will get their pick of one of the judge's story collections.

Here are the rules:

  1. All submissions must be no longer than 300 words. The author's name and contact information should appear on the first (and come to think of it, in all likelihood, only) page. ADDED SEPTEMBER 25: No multiple submissions. Authors can only submit one story.
  2. Submissions should be received at savory@rogers.com no later than midnight (EST) of November 30th, 2009. Only RTF, DOC, and ODT attachments will be accepted.
  3. Winners will be announced January 2nd, 2010. First prize-winner will be published on the ChiZine Publications website and receive copies of Monstrous Affections by David Nickle, Objects of Worship by Claude Lalumière, and Horror Story and Other Horror Stories by Robert Boyczuk. Second- and third-prize winners will also appear on the ChiZine Publications website, and receive one of the three story collections (their choice).

Note: ChiZine and ChiZine Publications staff members are ineligible for this contest.
